On a Bengaluru to Varanasi flight, an Air India Express customer reportedly attempted to open the cockpit door in quest of the restroom, the airline reported Monday.
Crew members arrested the man, one of nine on board, and turned him over to the Central Industrial Security Force as the plane touched down.
A representative for Air India Express stated, “We are aware of media reports regarding an incident on one of our flights to Varanasi, where a passenger approached the cockpit entry area while looking for the lavatory.”
The airline said that “robust safety and security protocols are in place and were not compromised” and that the event had been reported to the appropriate authorities.
The representative stated that the problem is still being investigated.
Air India Express said separately on Monday that it has begun operating additional daily direct flights between Bengaluru and Bangkok, with effect from Thursday. The flight will depart from Bengaluru daily at 11 a.m. (IST) and arrive at its destination at 4:45 p.m. (IST).
The goal of the new service is to give tourists easy, continuous access to Thailand, particularly during the approaching holidays and celebrations.
An Air India Express flight from Delhi headed for Indore earlier this month experienced a mid-air engine failure, forcing the pilots to make a “PAN-PAN” contact to air traffic control before making a safe landing with no passengers hurt.
In aviation, the widely recognized “PAN-PAN” signal is used to signify an emergency that is not life-threatening but necessitates prompt assistance from ground services or air traffic control.
On September 5, officials said that 161 people were on board IX 1028 when the crew detected an oil filter problem while descending into Indore.
A combined pre-tax loss of Rs 9,568.4 crore was declared by Air India and its low-cost subsidiary, Air India Express, for FY 25. Air India Express, which had been lucrative for years, lost Rs 5,678.2 crore as a result of this.
