Air India group will run 72 flights to West Asia despite geopolitical tensions

Amid the geopolitical unrest, Air India and Air India Express are set to run a combined 72 planned and unplanned flights to and from the West Asia region on Sunday.

On March 15, both carriers will maintain their regular services to and from Muscat and Jeddah, which will include a total of eight flights between India and Jeddah.

“From Delhi and Mumbai, Air India will run one return service apiece, and from Bengaluru and Kozhikode, Air India Express will also run one flight apiece,” the airline stated.

Air India Express will also provide 12 planned flights to and from Muscat, with connections from Delhi, Kochi, Kozhikode, Mangaluru, Mumbai, and Thiruvananthapuram.

Additionally, depending on the availability of slots and other prevailing circumstances at the departure stations at the time, Air India and Air India Express would run a total of 52 unscheduled flights to and from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia.

The airline claims that it is running these flights with the required authorization from the appropriate Indian and local regulatory agencies.

It continued, “The Air India group is considering all options for running extra ad hoc flights to and from locations in West Asia. ”

Following an increase in aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices in the wake of shifting geopolitical events in the Middle East, Akasa Air, after Air India and IndiGo, has since added a fuel surcharge to its flights.

According to the airline, the cost would be between Rs 199 and Rs 1,300 for both its domestic and foreign flights.

Prior to this, IndiGo declared that beginning on March 14, a fuel fee would be added to the price of all domestic and foreign airline tickets. The fee will vary between Rs 425 and Rs 2,300 depending on the route, according to a statement released by the airline.

Additionally, Air India and Air India Express announced that they would be adding a fuel surcharge to airline fares. The airline group stated that a fuel levy of Rs 399 was imposed on each ticket for domestic flights beginning March 12.
