Devendra Fadnavis introduces the NCM card for users of Mumbai Metro Line 3

In an effort to standardize the city’s public transportation system, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis introduced the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) for Mumbai Metro Line 3, popularly referred to as the Aqua Line, on Tuesday.

From Aarey JVLR to Acharya Atre Chowk, customers can travel between Metro Line 3 stations with ease using the contactless RuPay NCM card, which will be available starting on Wednesday, without having to wait in line at ticket booths.

It offers a seamless multi-modal travel experience since it is fully compatible with other important Mumbai Metro lines, including Line 1, Line 2A, and Line 7, as well as other transit networks like Chalo Buses.

Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, and other high-ranking officials attended the launch.

In collaboration with the State Bank of India (SBI) and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (MMRC) is carrying out the effort.

According to officials, current commuters who already have NCMC cards from SBI or other players can begin using them on Line 3 on Wednesday. With a minimum top-up of Rs 100 and a maximum of Rs 2,000, new passengers can receive a complimentary card from any participating Metro Line 3 station or SBI bank, they noted.

The NCMC card integration in Mumbai Metro Line 3 is a significant milestone in our path towards smart and commuter-centric urban transport,” said Ashwini Bhide, Managing Director of MMRC, who spoke at the unveiling.

This contactless payment technology is a key component of Line 3, the city’s first fully underground Metro route, which is designed with future-proof infrastructure. We are eager to work with NPCI and SBI to allow the Government of India’s National Common Mobility Card program and provide Mumbaikars with a smooth, hassle-free travel experience.
