
As Himachal Pradesh continued to be battered by relentless rain on Monday, 316 roads and one national highway were closed to motor vehicles.
In the afternoon, Shimla was enveloped in a thick layer of fog, making it difficult to see more than a few meters. An Orange warning for heavy to very heavy rain was issued by the local weather office for many locations throughout three to five districts until Thursday.
Kangra, Mandi, and Sirmaur districts are on alert for Tuesday; Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, and Sirmaur districts are on watch for Wednesday; and Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, and Sirmaur districts are on alert for Thursday.
Since Sunday evening, 61 mm of rain has fallen on Ghaghas village in the Bilaspur district. There has been 50.2 mm of rain in Bilaspur, 30.8 mm in Dharamshala, 30 mm in Sarahan, 28.6 mm in Murari Devi, 27.2 mm in Shimla, 25 mm in Jubbarhatti, and 24.5 mm in Neri.
Precipitation totaled 19.2 mm in Malraon, 19 mm in Kufri, 18.9 mm in Slapper, 18.7 mm in Sundernagar, 17.4 mm in Mandi, 16.1 mm in Nahan, and 16 mm in Dehra Gopipur.
Vehicle traffic was prohibited on Aut-Sainj Road, which is a section of NH-305. According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), 181 of the 316 highways that were closed were in the Mandi district, and 85 were in the nearby Kullu district.
36 people are still unaccounted for and 119 people have died in rain-related incidents so far this monsoon.
According to the SEOC, 491 water supply schemes and 79 electricity transformers have been impacted. Himachal Pradesh has recorded losses of Rs 2,007 crore since the monsoon began on June 20. These losses were caused by 54 significant landslides, 30 cloudbursts, and 58 flash floods.
The state received 509.5 mm of rainfall, which is more than 10% of the average of 463.5 mm, between June 1 and August 11, the meteorological office said.
