After necessary crew rest, an IndiGo flight flying from London to Mumbai, which was unable to finish its voyage on March 8 due to ongoing disruptions caused by the conflict in the Middle East, will now operate on March 10.
According to sources familiar with the situation, plans are in place to assist travelers impacted by the disruption.
To help travelers during the wait, visas and lodging are being planned.
The change follows the ongoing conflict between Iran, Israel, and the United States, which has led to changing airspace limitations that have affected numerous international flights in various parts of the Middle East.
Earlier, an IndiGo flight travelling from New Delhi to Manchester had to turn around after spending nearly seven hours in the air because of unexpected airspace limitations in the area.
Flight 6E033, which was traveling between Delhi and Manchester, returned due to last-minute airspace limitations related to the developing situation in West Asia, the airline said.
As the situation changes, the airline warned that some of its flights could be rerouted or take longer routes.
It further said that ensuring the safety and security of passengers, crew, and aircraft continues to be its primary concern.
The incident was previously flagged on social media by the flight tracking website Flightradar24, which posted tracking data indicating that the plane had turned around and was traveling back towards India.
According to the platform, the plane also turned around close to the border between Eritrea and Ethiopia before flying back to Delhi.
Investor mood was also negatively impacted by the interruption. The parent firm of IndiGo, InterGlobe Aviation, saw its shares fall by roughly 4% on Monday to Rs 4,236 on the BSE. The stock had previously dropped as low as session’s 8. 37%.
The conflict has caused crude oil prices to skyrocket, putting pressure on aviation equities, according to analysts.
Due to the tensions, many large producers decreased output and shipping via the Strait of Hormuz was impacted, causing a brief increase in oil prices to around $110 per barrel.
